In the days after terrorist attacks reduced the World Trade Center buildings to rubble, a village began to sprout up amid the ash. Emergency personnel, firefighters, police and volunteers created a self-sustaining shantytown of trucks, tents and portable toilets. As long as there was work to be done, this was home.
